in your opinion what are the best free anti virus, anti spyware, anti malware, and firewall available.i have a comodo firewall, avg free antivirus, and windows defender all protecting my computer......what do you have? what do you think works the best?

AVG (free) anti-virus has the lowest virus detection rate of all of the popular free anti-virus programs. By far.

There are much better free anti-virus alternatives such as Avria Anti-Vir:

Avira AntiVir庐 PersonalEdition Classic. It has excellent heuristics, a virus detection rate that is better than most "paid-for" anti-virus programs and is light on using your computer's resources. Uses less then 10 MB RAM on my machine. Works great on Vista.

The new version of Avast (4.8) is interesting too. It now includes anti-spyware and anti-rootkit detection capibilities. As well as Web (HTML on port 80) and e-mail scanning which most other free A-Vs don't.

Comodo is a great firewall and Defender is nice because it is one of the few free anti-spyware apps that has real-time, resident protection.

I have windows Vista- I use no Anti-virus/Spyware/Adware/Malware protection except Windows Defender.

I then don't go onto stupid websites and download stupid things. the machine has run @ the same speed since i've got it

(measured the performance with a game - well, opening it 15x's and joining the match with all instances and checking the FPS of each while getting killed)

Really its best to just not get the viruses than have an anti-virus :P (although thats hard to avoid for most people)

oh, read the Agreements before you install software - you'd be suprised how often there are little things saying "you allow us to install 3rd party software on your machine" which is often very nasty
