as for the free firewall, try zone alarm, that is a very good free one. and an antivirus, try panda, I had it before and worked well. both are free. as for the drivers, those should be updated either thru windows update or from the specific websites for the graphic software. Zone Alarm is a good free firewall. AVG at grisoft.com is a good free anti-virus program. Sorry, can't help you with your second question.
In answer to your second question, about a free program for updating drives, I recommend using the program to update its own drivers.

I would never recommend having another program choose to update drivers for any other program, than its own. It just doesn't make any sense.

If you think the program needs an update, you can go to the Help section listed in the toolbar of most programs, and click Update.

The company that makes the programs, also gets data back constantly from the program user's computer. This lets them know how the program works, and what should be fixed.

In regards to your first question, about free programs for firewall and anti-virus protection, you should check out CNet.com (aka "download.com"). Just read the reviews on the products, that are written by the editor and the users.

However, I recommend that you buy a program's full editon, after you find one that you like what they have to offer. That way you will have better protection, and be able to get all available updates, as they are offered.

A free product is nice, but think about it for a seond. Will it offer the same protection as the one that is purchased? Probably not.
