Antivirus?

my 6-month norton AV subscription ended. I was wondering what would be a good, free replacement for download. (i don't care if it will only last a year or something without paying, i just need something.)

AVG or AVAST, both free with updates.

"Avast! home edition"
AVG. download it from grisoft.com
AVG Free edition is one of the very best, low key, high detection AV's around. Go to www.download.com (CNET site) and search for AVG... should be one of the first entries called AVG Free Edition... I've been using it for years now and am an IT manager.

Also spybot is great to have... yes it is more anti-spyware and not anti-virus although it does have some immunizations against things the AV would consider a virus. With AVG and spybot in combo there isnt much that can stop you.
You can get a free AVG at www.download.com or you could have a 90 day trail of Windows Live One Care at www.Microsoft.com
For your anti-virus needs, I would strongly recommend Avira AntiVir庐 PersonalEdition Classic. It has excellent heuristics, a virus detection rate that is better than most "paid-for" anti-virus programs and is light on using your computer's resources. Uses less then 10 MB RAM on my machine. And did I mention that it's free for life! Works great on my Vista box, too.
